We are saddened at the death of Mallory Zolyan Schmitt, loving wife of Rev. Charles (Charlie) Schmitt, daughter of Myrna and Barrie Zolyan (deceased). Mallory was recently diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and succumbed rapidly. She died March 3, 2023 at age 67.

Mallory grew up in Philadelphia and later moved to Cherry Hill, N.J. She earned a BA at the University of Denver and later received an MBA in marketing from Pace University. After her career in Market and Media Research she relocated to Maryland and began a second career in real estate. It was at her office in Columbia, MD that she met Charlie Schmitt. They married and shared a life together for 32 years. In 1992 they created their home improvement business, The Home Healer.

In 2015 Mallory became business manager of CITI Ministries, Inc and in 2018 became the President/Executive Director, a role she cherished and was active in until her death. In that capacity she led and served a non-profit organization which enables married and resigned Catholic priests to continue their ministries serving those who feel rejected or neglected by the institutional church.

Mallory will be remembered for her generosity, her kindness and her sense of humor. She was a friend when you needed someone to care. She took needy folks under her wing until they were ready to fly on their own. She and Charlie built their beautiful home in Shady Side, MD on the Chesapeake Bay. It was the best place to be for friends and family on holidays or for any celebration — always full of warmth, laughter, good conversations and the best dinners.

Their home was also a destination for couples seeking The Wedding Planner and her officiant husband, Father Charles, who would guide them through the winding path of wedding prep to a happy and beautiful ceremony.

Mallory researched rocks and stones for their healing powers so she could give them to friends at the right time. Captain Mallory loved to fish, especially off her own boat, the Barrie Z. Many rockfish were brought over the side of the Barrie Z.

She loved to plan trips so that she and Charlie could see interesting places, enjoy new foods and still have time left to relax in the sun.

Charlie and Mallory shared everything that life sent them. She died peacefully, holding her beloved Charlie’s hand. We are all better people for having known our Mal. She died in peace and dignity.

A celebration of Mallory’s life is planned for a time and place yet to be determined. The family requests that no flowers be sent and that any contributions made in Mallory’s honor be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
